Dr. Monroe, a native of Hartford, grew up in the Blue Hills area, making him no stranger to the neighborhood Jumoke is a part of. Monroe returned to Connecticut in 1999 from Virginia where he went to college and started his teaching and administrative career. Since his return, Monroe has earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and also holds a Bachelors degree in Middle and Secondary Education from Hampton University, and a Masters degree in Urban Education and Personnel administration from Norfolk State University in Virginia. Monroe is set to guide the schools along the path to excellence that they have so clearly taken in the past.
Latoya Johnson is the principal of Thelma Ellis Dickerson’s Jumoke Academy Elementary School (TED). Principal Johnson has been in education for 13 years. Her career began in 2006 as a first–grade teacher with Alamance- Burlington School System in North Carolina. Mrs. Johnson has taught several grade levels as an elementary teacher. She has experience with grades 1, 2, 3, 5, and has served as a K-5 Reading teacher. In addition to her experiences in the classroom, Principal Johnson has experience mentoring and coaching teachers, conducting professional development and writing curriculum at the district level.
Principal Johnson earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. She holds a Masters in School Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. In 2017, Principal Johnson obtained her 092 certification through the Residency Program for School Leadership through Achievement First Charter Schools. Upon completion of the yearlong residency program, Principal Johnson served as Dean of Students and Enrichment at Thelma Ellis Dickerson’s Jumoke Academy Elementary School (TED).
Principal Johnson has the unique experience of serving as teacher, dean, and now principal within Jumoke Academy Charter Schools. She has a passion for planning, implementing and supporting teachers with literacy instruction.
In Principal Johnson’s spare time she enjoys traveling to North Carolina to visit family and reading children’s books with her daughter.
Principal Bobby Gibson Jr. brings with him over 32 years of experience in education. Gibson first garnered widespread notoriety while serving as a science teacher in Bloomfield, Hartford, and the Capital Region Educational Council where he positively influenced the lives of students for well over two decades.
Gibson also serves as a State Representative where he has represented the Fifteenth District of the Connecticut House of Representatives since 2018. He also coached hundreds of student-athletes, while winning many Conference and State Championships in Basketball, Track and Field, and Football.
Gibson sits on the Board of Directors for Discovering Amistad, the Bloomfield Junior Warhawks Youth Football Team, and is a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Principal Gibson has also served as the First District Social Action Chairman and Basileus of the Tau Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where the Chapter of the Year distinction is an expectation.
Gibson has received Educator Awards for his dedication to improve the outcomes for his students. He has been named Coach of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. State Representative Gibson has also received awards from the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut, The Links Incorporated Farmington Connecticut Chapter, Prince Hall Foundation of Connecticut, Composite Lodge #22 of Bloomfield Connecticut, 100 Black Men, The Institute for Cross-Cultural Awareness and Transformative Education Award, Connecticut League of Conservational Voters Environmental Champion, The Greater Hartford Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance 2020 Drum Major Award for politics, The Bethel AME Church Brotherhood Award, The Hopewell Baptist Church Teen Honoree, and has been named Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Citizen of the Year and Omega Man of the Year twice.
Principal Gibson’s story is one of manhood despite the odds and persevering over obstacles despite what has put before him. He believes that scholarship is the key to achieving a positive effect on the life of any human being. He is a champion for the access to lifelong learning.
He attended Southern Connecticut State University and conferred his bachelor’s degree from Charter Oak State College. He received his Master of Arts from the Graduate Institute, a certification in intermediate administration (092) from Sacred Heart University, and is currently pursuing further education.
Principal Gibson is bringing the same energy, passion, determination, work ethic, and uplift that his community has come to know and respect to JAH-HC.
Kashay Green has been a dedicated faculty member since 2012 and has served in various capacities during her tenure including teaching for seven years at Thelma Ellis Dickerson’s Elementary School, serving as middle school dean, and various school-based and district level committees impacting curriculum development and evaluation. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), she received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in May 2009 as well as her Master’s degree in Special Education in May 2013. Dean Green returned to CCSU in 2016 and has since completed her 6thyear degree in Educational Leadership in May 2018. She currently holds her 092 Administration Certification for the state of Connecticut.
Before joining the Jumoke family, Dean Green taught at a Middletown, CT public school for three years. Serving as a TEAM mentor and being a lead member of different teams and committees are just a few of the ways she continues to support Jumoke Academy’s mission to prepare scholars to successfully compete in the global marketplace despite any social and economic challenge.
Principal Green continues to lead by example as a lifelong learner who holds high expectations for all learners, herself, and those she works with. She believes it “takes a village to raise a child” therefore the collaboration of educators and maintaining a partnership with families are essential for student achievement.
When she finds spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Reading and cooking with her daughter as well as working out are few of her favorite things.
