An Update on Coronavirus from our Executive Director 3/12/2020 3:30pm

Jumoke Academy Community,

The health and safety of our entire community is our top priority at the academy. Today I am sharing a number of updates with you about the developing national concern over COVID-19 or the Coronavirus.

This weekend, in addition to our current enhanced cleaning routines, all Jumoke Academy school buildings will be conducting a disinfecting of all touch surfaces throughout the building, including classrooms and bathrooms. An additional technology focused cleaning will be conducted on Wednesday, March 18th. Please note that there are parent conferences scheduled for the 18th and consideration is being given to restructuring that process. More information will be made available prior to that date.

Jumoke Academy administration has also made the decision to cancel the upcoming annual Washington D.C. field trip for our eighth-grade scholars. We value the health and safety of our children, families and staff. Please be assured all families who paid a deposit will receive a refund from the district in the mail.

In addition, Jumoke Academy will be limiting gatherings of 100 people or more. This month’s Jumoke Academy Board meeting will be held via conference call. Information on that meeting, to be held on March 17th at 6pm, can be found on

As I continue to monitor the spread of the Coronavirus, I will be meeting with key leaders and personnel weekly about this matter. I will provide our community with updates as they become available. Until then, we can all take steps to stay informed and help minimize the impact of this virus by:

  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Staying home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
